

Joy Lands Wittmann passed away surrounded by family on Monday, November 29, 2021 at the age of 90. She was born in New Orleans, Louisiana on February 4, 1931 to Roy Lands and Lillian Lorenz Lands. She resided in Metairie, Louisiana. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Claude Jacob (CJ) Wittmann, whom she was married to for 36 years. She is also preceded in death by her sisters, Beryl Lands and Jewel Kelly (John) and her brother Roy Lands (Leona). She is survived by her two daughters, Holly Karrigan (Kevin) and Wendy Villere (Gerard); grandchildren Lillian Villere, Jacob Villere, Hayley Karrigan, and Adam Karrigan (Sarah). She was affectionally known as G-Joy to her grandchildren. She is also survived by her niece, Erin Power; best friends, Iris Schluter Dreelin and Marilyn Berry and many other friends and relatives. She graduated from Eleanor McMain High School and Business School, where she met her future husband. In her career, she worked for the Archdiocese of New Orleans and Associated General Contractors. She left a lucrative job to follow her heart and passion, which was travel. After working for a travel agency for a few years, she branched out and founded Joy in Travel in 1984. As the proud owner of Joy in Travel, she would frequently take large groups on trips, including to Asia, Egypt, Canada, and Europe, to name a few. She traveled the globe and instilled this love of travel into her daughters and grandchildren. When her daughters were young, the family would take road trips every summer throughout the United States, Canada, and Mexico. One of her favorite trips was an African Safari, which she went on with her husband. She took her daughters and grandchildren on multiple trips and these memories will always be treasured. She enjoyed telling her family and friends about her travel experiences. She also loved tennis and the theater. A visitation will be held Saturday, December 4, 2021 from 10:00 AM to 12:00 noon at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd., New Orleans, LA 70124, followed by a Chapel service at noon.
