Lawrence J. (Butsy) James, age 94, passed away on Monday, October 18, 2021. He was born and raised in New Orleans and a resident of Houma, LA. Lawrence is survived by his wife of 48 years, Thelma Plessala James; his stepsons, Charles Arp, Jr. and wife, Jean; Christopher Arp, Mike Arp and wife, Angie; 10 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his father, Henry P. James; his mother, Theresa Hagardorn James; his sister, Florence Hernandez; his brother, Henry F. James; and stepdaughter, Delores Arp.
Butsy served in World War II as an Army Corporal. He was a member of the American Legion Post #228 and served as Sergeant at Arms. He was a member of ChefDeGar and served as Lampist. He was a member of the VFW and served on the Board of Directors. He was also a member of 40-8.
Friends and family are invited to a visitation at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home at 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd., New Orleans, LA 70124 on Thursday, October 21, 2021 from 9:00 to 11:00 AM with a funeral service to follow.
