

Leon Joseph Guillot Jr., age 83, passed away peacefully into eternal rest on Sunday, March 6th, 2022, at his home, surrounded by his wife and family. He was born in New Orleans, Louisiana on September 16, 1938. He resided in River Ridge, Louisiana with his wife, Joe Ann Gray Guillot, of 51 years.
He is survived by his wife, daughter Anna Daneal Rye, granddaughter Megan Guillot Rust (Stephen), great-grandchildren Lillian and Harper Rust, granddaughter Brandi Culberson Huguet (Justin), great-grandchildren Amelie and Nicole Huguet, and sister Evelyn Guillot Styer. He is also survived by his sisters-in-law Peggy Thibodeaux, Beverly Guillot, Charlotte Gray, brother-in-law Caley Taylor Gray Jr. (Anne), and numerous nieces and nephews.
Leon was preceded in death by his father Leon Joseph Guillot Sr., his mother Hazel Bergeron Guillot, daughter Lydell Marie Rye, brother Larry Anthony Guillot (Beverly), sister-in-law Anna Gray, brothers-in-law Wayne Gray, Richard Gray, Harry Thibodeaux, and great-nephew Vincent Michael Thibodeaux.
In his early years, Leon served in the National Guard and The United States Army. He was a decorated rifleman, serving in an American peace keeping force during the Berlin Conflict of 1960-1962. After his time in the service, Leon was a supervisor and ship fitter at the Avondale Shipyard for 44 years. One of his greatest honors was welding steel from the wreckage of the World Trade Center Towers into the USS New York during his tenure at the shipyard. He was a Master Mason of the Masonic Lodge #408 F&AM. Leon possessed a deep devotion and love for his family. He will be remembered for his unique sense of humor and his ability to entertain family and friends. He was a devout Catholic and loyal parishioner of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church. Leon enjoyed horse racing, shrimping, Saints games, tinkering on whatever projects Joe Ann had for him, as well as the occasional glass of Wild Turkey 101. He will be missed dearly by all who knew and loved him.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Catholic Memorial Service to be held in the chapel of Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd, New Orleans, LA 70124 on Saturday, March 19, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. Visitation will begin at 12:00 p.m.
