Lois Helfrich Hellmers

Lois Helfrich Hellmers died on Tuesday, September 6th in Metairie, Louisiana at the age of 88. She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald J. Hellmers Sr.; parents, Lois F. Helfrich and Rev. Louis J. Helfrich; brother, George Helfrich. She was very active in her church, St. Paul Lutheran, where she was a member of the choir and belonged to various women’s organizations. Lois was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She is survived by her children, Donald J. Hellmers Jr., Darlene H. Percy (William), and Marlene H. Kleinschmidt (Dean); grandchildren, Taryn P. Terrell (Jonathan), Mellanie M. Hellmers, Mary P. Degruise (Trent), Brian D. Hellmers, Kevin A. Hellmers, Rhett L. Kleinschmidt (Kayna), Morgan L. Kleinschmidt, and Taylor D. Hellmers; step grandson, Bryan Buck; great grandchildren, Katelyn J. Terrell, Maegan G. Terrell, Makena J. Terrell, Olivia M. Bilello, Conner J. Bilello, Mary-Grace Bilello, Jacob E. Terrell, and Conway R. Kleinschmidt; sister-in-law, Patricia Helfrich. Lois is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was an extraordinary woman and will be deeply missed.

A memorial service will be held at 11am on Friday, November 17, 2017 at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd. New Orleans, Louisiana. Visitation will begin at 10am. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to St. Paul Lutheran Church, 2624 Burgundy Street, New Orleans, LA 70117.
