Loyd “Goose“ John Bagot, age 62, was a devoted husband and loving father who fought tirelessly to get a heart transplant and passed away peacefully. He is leaving the love of life, Rita Edwards Bagot who he shared so many wonderful memories with. He beamed with pride when talking about his children: Daniel Bagot (Robyn), their children Logan and Reese; Rene Philibert (Angel), children Shayne and Brittany; Denise Philibert; and Rick Philibert (Darbi) children Pike and Parker – who he was affectionately referred to by his grandchildren as Papa Goose. He is also survived by his sister, Beth Wilson (Bobby), their children Madison (his Godchild) and Tyler, and Brother Jeff Bagot (Mona) and their children Chase, Matthew and Seth. He was preceded in death by his mom and stepfather, Dorilee and Farrell Trosclair, and father, William Loyd Bagot.
Loyd was a proud graduate from Archbishop Shaw (1979) and studied business at Delgado Community College. He had a thirst for knowledge, could spout random facts and was very proud of his Southern Heritage. He was insightful, exceptionally smart and talented. Was always loyal to friends and strangers, which made him a successful business owner of Dixie Industries for over 30 years.
His passion for sports showed in his usual Saints, LSU, and Pelican’s attire and constant discussion about their seasons, players, and stats. He was a TIger on Saturdays and a Saint on Sundays. His dedication and leadership led him to serve as President of the Touchdown Club, one of his pride and joys. He also enjoyed being President of his weekly bowling league, Colonial Castaways. He was an avid outdoorsman, loving golf, fishing, hunting, and visiting various famous baseball parks as well as a lover of theater and music. His sense of humor delighted others with his endless “Loydisms”. Throughout his life, he never met a stranger. He loved life and people, and made everyone around him laugh, smile, and feel special. He loved his family and spending endless time with them as well as his neighbors and friends.
His witty sense of humor, zest for life and love for people will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the service in the chapel of Lake Lawn Metairie 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd, New Orleans, LA 70124 on Thursday, May 16, 2024 from 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM.
