IN THE CARE OF

Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home & Cemeteries

Margaret Anne Hines Godfrey passed away in New Orleans on May 22, 2025 at the age of 80. Margaret, the daughter of Dr. Merrill Odom Hines and Margaret Davis Hines, was a native New Orleanian. She is survived by her husband, Jarrell E. Godfrey, Jr., her son William Herbert Hill, Jr. (Jeannette), her daughter McLaurin Hill Files (Patrick), her son Jackson Hines Hill (Jamie), her step-son Jarrell E. Godfrey III, her step-daughter Lauren G. Kalanson (Jack), her step-son John S. Godfrey (Soyna) and her beloved grandchildren and step-grandchildren: Elizabeth, Margaret, Marie, Josephine, Annelise, and Edwin; and Brice, Olivia, Drew, Nell, and John Pleasant. Margaret is predeceased by her parents as well as her brother, Merrill Odom Hines, Jr. She was a graduate of Vanderbilt University exploring her love of plants and nature with a focus on botany. Margaret found her love of reading and learning at Louise S. McGehee School in New Orleans where she made lifelong friends. She was devoted to her husband, family, and friends and an active member of her community including her lifelong involvement with the Episcopal Church, both in New Orleans and Saint Joseph, Louisiana, where she served on the vestry for Christ Episcopal Church. Fond of entertaining, Margaret loved sharing good food with good company as a loyal wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. She enjoyed both quiet trips to visit with family and more adventurous travels with her husband. Over the years, Margaret doted on her many cats, dogs, and other pets, spending time breeding and training her labrador retrievers. Her family and friends will miss and remember her love of a shared laugh, her fabulous cooking, the support she provided during difficult times, and her strength of character. A funeral service will be held at Trinity Episcopal Church, 1329 Jackson Ave, New Orleans, on June 2 at 11:00 am. A visitation will begin at 10:00 am. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to Trinity Episcopal Church in New Orleans, Ochsner New Orleans, or Louise S. McGehee School in New Orleans.
