

Maria “Beba” Lopez was called home on May 2, 2025. She was born on December 20, 1933 in Colón, Cuba, and later lived in New Orleans, LA and Santo Domingo, D.R. before returning to New Orleans for the last 28 years of her life. She is survived by: her daughters, Maria Elena Monahan (Bill); Maria Eugenia Ward; Maria de Lourdes Twena (Yacov), and Maria Amelia Lopez; her brother, Jesus Muñoz; sister-in-law, Esperanza Lopez; and her beloved grandchildren: Francesca, Elka, Seve, Gabe, Jason and Ani, and great-grandchildren, Amelia and Khaleigh. Beba was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 63 years, Francisco S. Lopez, her son, Francisco L. Lopez, and granddaughter, Teresa M. Monahan. She is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews and cherished friends.
Committed to her Roman Catholic faith, Beba was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Beba was known for her abundant generosity, loving and spirited personality, and fondness for sharing her Cuban cuisine with family and friends. She volunteered tirelessly to help those in need, especially the disadvantaged and ill children in the Dominican Republic.
May she rest in eternal peace.
Her daughters are grateful for all of her dedicated caregivers, especially Kathya Leon and Belinda Jimenez, as well as the Sisters, Servants of Mary and the staff of Harmony Hospice.
A visitation will be held from 11:00am until 1:00pm on Saturday, May 17, 2025, immediately followed by a memorial Mass at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd. in New Orleans. Friends and family are welcome.
