Maria Pratt Viguerie

Maria Pratt Viguerie passed away on April 24, 2026, surrounded by family and friends who were blessed to know her warmth, kindness, and unmistakable spirit. She was 84 years young. Maria was the beloved wife to the late Peter Viguerie and loyal sister to the late Anne Pratt. She was a devoted mother to Michael Viguerie, David Viguerie and Anne Viguerie Villere (Sandy). Maria was the most wonderful grandmother to Peter Viguerie, Marianne Villere, Saint Villere and Collier Villere. Her grandchildren were the loves of her life.

Maria lived life with an open heart and a welcoming smile, truly never meeting a stranger. She had a gift for making people feel instantly at ease, whether through a lively conversation, shared laughter, or a simple act of kindness. She found great joy at the bridge table, where friendships flourished alongside spirited competition, and many cherished hours were spent among dear friends.

An avid lover of yellow labrador retrievers, Maria was a fixture on St. Charles Avenue, sometimes walking up to three large dogs at a time. Along the way she greeted neighbors and strangers alike and often turned a simple hello into a wonderful exchange. Those walks reflected who she was — joyful, social, and deeply connected to her community.

Maria will be remembered for her generosity, her quick wit, her love of silly pranks, and the genuine interest she took in everyone she met. Her legacy lives on in the countless friendships she formed and the love she shared so freely.

She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by her friends and family, and all whose lives were brightened by knowing her. Family and friends are invited to attend the Memorial Mass at noon on Thursday, May 21st at St. Rita’s Catholic Church, 2729 Lowerline Street in New Orleans. Visitation will be from 10am until service time. Interment will follow in Lake Lawn Park Cemetery. Contributions to SPCA New Orleans, 1700 Mardi Gras Blvd. NOLA 70114 are preferred.
