Marilyn Treitler Baker passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by her family, on Monday, August 18, 2025, at the age of 89. A native of New Orleans, Marilyn lived a life rooted in devotion—to her faith, her family, and the values she held dear.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John L. Treitler, and Ruth Picou Treitler, as well as her sisters, Darlene Schoenbrun and Cynthia O’Rourke.
She is survived by her devoted husband of 65 years, James R. Baker Jr., who stood faithfully by her side throughout their life together. She also leaves behind her beloved children: James R. Baker III and his wife, Mary, and Melanie Baker Trimarco and her late husband Mark.
Marilyn was a graduate of Holy Angels and attended Loyola University. She dedicated over 30 years of service to Mutual of Omaha, where she was known for her professionalism and quiet integrity.
She was a devoted wife and mother, whose love for her family was unconditional. She never missed a chance to “see the Mouse,” and her joy in those moments reflected the playful spirit that lived beneath her gentle grace. Her faith was the cornerstone of her life—Marilyn was a devout Catholic with a deep and abiding devotion to the Blessed Mother. Her rosary was never far from reach, and her prayers were a source of comfort to many.
With heartfelt appreciation, the family thanks Dr. Pedroza and his team, the Notre Dame Hospice Team, and especially her angel caregiver, Amy, whose gentle presence and loving care brought comfort and peace to Marilyn in her final days.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Mass at St. Philip Neri Catholic Church, 6500 Kawanee Ave. in Metairie, on Saturday, August 23, 2025, at 12:30 PM. A visitation will be held at the church beginning at 10:30 AM. Interment will follow the Mass at Lake Lawn Park Mausoleum.
