Marilyn Rose Levy Horn, passed away peacefully in her home on May 24, 2017. In the last months of her life, she was surrounded by her children and guarded ferociously by her faithful Yorkie, Yum-yum. She was preceded in death by her adoring husband of 47 years Raymond (Jack) E. Horn Jr. She left this world to be with him on what would have been his 95th birthday. They are together again, at last. She is survived by her children Stacy Horn Koch, (Thomas); Raymond E. Horn III; John Parker Horn; Michael Carroll Horn, (Angela); Mary Elizabeth Horn and Kathleen (Kappa) Byrnes Horn. She was preceded in death by her grandson Raymond E. Horn IV who she loved with all of her heart and is survived by 4 grandchildren Brady Parker Horn, Nicola (Nico) Connor Koch, Ethan Michael Horn and Jack Evan Horn. Known as Mimi to her grandchildren, she was the best grandmother in the whole world! Marilyn was born on October 3, 1932 to Bernard and Anna Byrnes Levy she was the last surviving child of that union that produced 4 brothers and 1 sister, Bernard Levy Jr.; Joseph Levy; Charles Paul Levy; Anna Mae Levy Barrios and Daniel Levy. She is survived by numerous nieces, nephews and grand nieces and nephews. She was a stewardess for Eastern Airlines in the 1950’s. Marilyn did volunteer work with channel 12 WYES and the Ozanam Inn and also served in the Women’s Auxiliary of the Jefferson Parish Medical Society. She served as a delegate for then candidate, Ronald Reagan in 1980. She was most proud of her groundbreaking work to create and pass legislation to protect and assist children with learning disabilities. Marilyn walked with beauty and grace her whole life. She had her own sense of style and elegance that permeated everything that she did. She enjoyed the opera and symphony as well as Neil Diamond, Blood Sweat and Tears, Barbara Streisand and the Beatles… we as a family sang songs like Jeremiah Was a Bullfrog and Sweet Caroline in the back of a station wagon on the way to new adventures. She was a fantastic cook, party planner and gardener and passed these talents on to her children. Most of all, she made our house the home where the whole neighborhood came to hang out. Her children though, are her greatest legacy. For better or worse she gave birth to six strong children who to this day stand closely together, shoulder to shoulder, always fierce, always one and all loving and missing her.
