Beloved wife and mother, Marilyn Dolores (Pfleeger) Souther, passed away on January 28, 2025. She was 93. Born on July 25, 1931, Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents, brother and beloved husband of 68 years, Timothy B. Souther, Jr. A devoted homemaker, cherished preschool teacher, and a caring friend and neighbor, Marilyn radiated kindness, humility, and a deep devotion to her faith. Truly one of God's angels on Earth, she touched the lives of many who knew her. Daughter of Alma Victoria Fernandez and August Pfleeger, she had a close bond with her mother and only brother, August Pfleeger, Jr., having lost her father at 18 months. She spent her childhood in Yscloskey, La., and then in New Orleans where she knew the love of an extended family of aunts and uncles. Later in life, she shared a deep affection with her stepfather, Francis Styron, and mother-in-law, Margaret P. Souther. She lived much of her life in Metairie, La. She retired from Parkway Presbyterian Church as a preschool teacher in 1993 after 23 years of service. She worked in the accounting department of Pan-American Life Insurance in New Orleans from 1951-1956, upon graduating from L.E. Rabouin Vocational School and McMain High School. She met her husband at Pan-American and married on October 22, 1955. Tim and Marilyn enjoyed dancing and spending time with their children and neighbors at the Airline Park Community Club. A dedicated member of St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church for more than 50 years, she lived her faith as a Eucharistic minister and extraordinary minister. She was a former Scout leader and a member of a Monday night Rosary prayer group. She enjoyed quilting, with beautiful handwork, and gardening. A lover of children, "Miss Marilyn" was adored by the young ones she taught and cared for. Marilyn was the beloved mother of Timothy Bradlee Souther III (Stella), David Souther (Aimee), and Sharon Truxillo (Jack). She was grandmother of Timothy David Souther, who also preceded her in death; Kathryn Souther, Lauren McDonald (Steve), Andrew Souther, Stephen Souther and Michael Cooper Bethea. She was also step-grandmother of Paige Nelson and great-grandmother of Aaliyah Souther and Owen McDonald. She is survived by her sister-in-law, Betty Pfleeger. Special thanks to Tim (Brad) for caring for his mother, friend Nancy Dicharry, extraordinary minister Jody Moreau, friend Donna Foto, and to the caregivers at Nurses Registry, Passages Hospice, and Fidelis Craig House. Service will be held on Friday, January 31, 2025, at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd New Orleans, LA 70124. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. followed by a funeral Mass at 1:00 p.m. and burial. Friends and family are invited to stop by Marilyn's home after the services.
