I miss Mark, his bright, lovi g spirit. He was and always bas been a true brother with a great big heart. We spent much ti.e on MFT ha ing many adv entures. Mark had the heart of looking at bright side and fun. He was fantastic as a captain driver and brother.  We all have our time when we depart from this physical world. My sincere condolences to my cousins, the Turegano family.  By blood at least I am a Turegano, and I can attest this is a family with members of not only great intellects but also with equally great matching hearts, the rare kind that radiates out and palpably touches others; a gift really. My great aunts, grandmother (Blanche Turegano) and her son, my father, all had this gift.  Mark, though I only had the pleasure of meeting and/or speaking with him a few times, I quickly discerned he had inherited this trait too, and what a wonderful thing that is. May this gift, or if I could put into better words, "spirit of pure love," in his bodily absence continue to surround this family, their friends, and acquaintances.

I want to celebrate Mark's life and exciting wonderful next stage of his life in the spiritual world, which I think should be a great adventure.   I had the privilege of speaking with him on the phone about a month ago and it was so good to share.   I met Michiko in NYC over 30 years ago and the family has a special place in my heart.   My prayers for God's love and support to be abundant for your precious family.   

For the 20 years we worked, prayed, and shared life as comrades, co-workers and families under God, we will always count ourselves blessed for having known you, dear brother. Our families will be forever linked in love and in joy.

I'm so sorry to hear about Mark. I was very fortunate to have worked with him in Metairie. He always had a smile for everyone and was always willing to share his knowledge. We had many long conversations about training and IT. He will be greatly missed. My thoughts and prayers are with his family.

Dear Michiko and family, I am so very sad to learn of Mark's passing. As you may remember, I had the great honor of meeting and visiting with you, Mie and Annette almost two years ago in Baton Rouge when Bernadette was being cared for at the hospital there. I hadn't seen Mark since our elementary school days at Mater Dolorosa in the 1960's.  I met Mark in when we were 5 years old! We were good friends in school for eight years until he left for Jesuit and my family moved to the westbank after 7th grade. Through the years when I would recall my time at Mater Dolorosa, Mark was someone who'd always come to mind. I remember him as the "smart" kid who was really good at spelling bees, the boy who never got in trouble, and was often selected for special honors and speaking roles in the school plays. He could memorize the lines even at the age of 6 or 7! And as we got a little older, I remember Mark as being a good boy, a kind friend, someone I could trust. Then, as it happens so many times in life, circumstances change and you don't get to see that person anymore and you lose touch. I feel very blessed to have had the chance to reconnect with Mark recently and meet you. It became instantly clear to me that day that Mark had made the most of the gifts God gave him so long ago. The seeds of kindness, love, grace, loyalty, excellence in all things, and openness to God were all there from the start. Mark nurtured those seeds throughout his life and brought them to full bloom with the guidance of the Holy Spirit. I'm very sad for you and your family today as you say goodbye to this very special man. I truly believe that God will give you strength to bear this sorrow every day until the time comes when you see him once again in the wonderful life that will never end. My love and prayers to you all.

So thankful to have known you Mr Mark. Your charm and laugh could light up a room, and your voice and intellect could command its attention. You worked diligently to love and strengthen your family into a beautiful gift to the world. I remember many dinners with no TV, just an open discussion from the deeper issues of life to humorous trifles of everyday life. I'll miss the backyard BBQs and coffee shop talks. Your memories and love will live on here with your family and the countless people you impacted in your life. Thank you for all the wisdom and understanding you were always willing to share. You were a second father to me and I am at peace knowing you are continuing your love in the great beyond.

Brother Mark, you have been a great friend, a worthy elder brother I am sending off with love and gratitude!

We thank our Heavenly Parent for bringing the Tureganos in our lives. Brother Mark was honest, straightforward and thoughtful. When he gave his word to do things, he was a person we could count on. We worked together to have a few panels with pastors, like Dr. Norwood Thompson, Jr.  and his wife who went to glory respectively three weeks and a week ago. We also had Dr. Simmie Lee Harvey who crossed over six years ago. Surviving are Dr. Ernest Marcelle, Jr. , the first black state trooper in Louisiana, Dr. Leon Tilton and Dr. Greene. We cherish the memories of the good moments we shared taking care of others and building bridges for the sake of God's Kingdom here and now. We are still processing this sudden separation and praying for your harmonious ascension, as well as God's comfort for your beloved nuclear and extended family.Dr. Kasongo will be there to honor you as an unforgettable neighbor in Kenner. We would have coffee at French Press, meet with the twins sometimes at CC coffee on Veterans Blvd, and team up at Moriah Missionary Baptist Church. You were among the first to reach out when Dr. Kasongo suffered a heart attack on November 15, 2009. You encouraged us as we came  in the after- Katrina recovery. You took time to break down the powerpoint concept for us. We cannot forget the time Michiko and yourself took care of your dad. You were a precious friend who would show up when it was not a photo op or highly advertised events. What a journey you had here on this earth - intense, exciting, the unexpected coming you way quite often. You faced life and dealt with it. Sometimes embracing, other times pushing it away...

You were a curious soul, wanting to know, to understand, always an interesting guy to talk with.

We worked together here in Irvington, NY. Your intelligence and patience were your signature. I would not have wanted your job! You did it well with grace and finesse.

I wish and pray that your family have peace and goodness fill their hearts during this time of transition.

Uncle Mark, The bright light of your larger than life presence will always remain in our hearts.  Without question, anyone who has had the privilege of knowing you was moved by you.  You had a curiosity for others that was profoundly genuine, you were smart as a whip accompanied with a breath and depth of knowledge of everything under the moon (not surprised about the valevictorian accomplishment and if I recall, an SAT score to boot - attainable not only with your intellect but by your dedication and thirst for knowledge).  A flash of memories came to mind when Mamina told me of your passing.... the one memory that keeps coming to mind over the last few days is your distinct belly laugh that I can still hear and anyone would recognize in an instant as yours... now that I think of it, it was distinct because it came from your open and brave soul, the place you always accessed and lived from.  Your laugh also stands out because every time we spoke, you always found an opportunity for laughter somewhere in the conversation no matter how serious... whether it be out to lunch at Korean restaurant in your hometown with you and your wife, or at a late night sleepover in elementary school with Mamina and A&B at East House and you'd pop in and tell us a late night story after a long day's work and let us call you Mr. Clean.  We selfishly wish you could have been with us longer... but it makes it a little better knowing that your knees don't crack anymore on the other side from all the tennis you played... and we know you lived a full life -- one to aspire to with four awesome daughters who carry on your legacy, and a lovely wife.  Uncle Mark, you'll be remembered... thank you for being a living model (and now legend) of how to live this life with passion, fortitude, and dedication... and thank you sharing your light with us. Sending love as your soul and spirit navigate your way on the other side. See you there.

Our community has been so blessed to have the Turegano family's love and kindness for many year's. Despite the circumstances of life, Mark always had a warm smile and kind words. He really lived his faith and always respected the faith of others. Several times we shared the love of God with various ministries and in honor of those not only religious saints, but also patriots who serve and have served in our military. You'll always be my Uncle. Here are the words I wish I wrote you when I still had the time. I am so deeply grateful that I not only got to meet and know you since I moved to New Orleans, but that I got to see you once more shortly before your ascension, with eyes so bright and clear. You have a spirit that fills the room, an intelligence rooted in righteousness and nobility and a heart so filled with deep love. So few are able to strike that rare combination of intellect and heart, and yet, there you are- the perfect embodiment of it.
To say that you will be missed is an understatement. Your words have IMPACT- you've always carried resonance so deeply in your spirit. I will relish the beautiful conversations we shared, the incredible truth and wisdom that resounded in your words. Your deep laughter. Your warm smile. The caring way you called us sweetie; the way you looked at your family with so much pride and love. The strength you maintained in such times of trial and tribulation; the example you set on integrity, righteousness, and justice.
What a beautiful man! I am so grateful for having met such a soul in this lifetime. There are people in this lifetime who come ago, and yet, so very few who remain unforgettable. You have the extraordinary gift of being seared into our memories for eons. May you rest gently among the spirits and angels who guide your passageway. May you be embraced lovingly by those who knew you closely and affectionately. And know that I will be here with your family, as a heart and a hand to hold, to ease the transition and pain of this loss.

I first met Mark back in the late 1970s. Took a liking to him right away. He seemed to readily excel at whatever he got involved with... Over time, we developed a close friendship, and we'd make intentional time to visit and fellowship together. Mark's daughter Mamina, and my daughter Ouja, were very close friends for many years. I'm fondly recalling Mamina coming to visit our daughter here in New York, a few years ago. I hadn't seen her for a long time, and when she showed up at our house, I was so happy to see her...It felt like we were longtime friends meeting up again! When Mark's family moved to New Orleans, I lost touch for a while, but eventually we rekindled our friendship. We would call each other now and then, and engage in deep religious and philosophical discussions. I recall him saying, "I'm just looking for the truth." I regret not having reached out to him more,after learning about his illness. It's hard to acknowledge his physical presence is no longer with us! I am aware of the recent challenges faced by Mark and his family,and offer my sincere and heartfelt prayers and support during this time! Whenever I think of Mark, I'm sure I'll remember a man dedicated to living in loving service to others, and a man inclined to pursue excellence in every activity of life. Although I will not see Mark's physical body anymore, I can still "be with him" whenever I want, by simply recollecting him and sharing "heart to heart" the times we spent together. I am greatly saddened by the news of the passing of my friend Mark. We both lived in River Ridge and did the five years (starting at eighth grade) at Jesuit together. We were housemates for the freshman year of college. Our journeys in life diverged after that so I will remember him only as a young man. Those memories of Mark and his family are good. I always appreciated Mark's no-nonsense approach to life. He always offered such clear insight about relevant issues. No doubt he will be profoundly missed, and he will watch over us from the other side, as he is now in Heaven's realm.

Didn't know him well, but he was a colleague many years ago.  I knew him to be a man of great faith who loved god, and was a devoted family man.  They, say you can tell a man, "by his fruits". Well, to look upon his lovely family it is obvious to see love and beauty he exemplified.  Sincere condolences to the family.

I  met Mark at  Mater  Dolorosa  School in  1963.  He  was a model  of  a  most  intellectual  child. Straight  A's, the  best  of  the  best. He  was  also the  most  competitive kid  other  than  me.    The reason  we  were  never  on  a  school playground team. We  had  great  respect  for  each  other.  We  finally were a  member  of  the  same  team  at  NORD   when we  played  and  his dad coached us.  A  couple  of  years  later, we  were  members of  the  NORD 11 year  old Championship team at  Carrollton.  then  when  I  began  8th  grade, I  had  move  to  Metairie, and  didn't see  him  until in  9th  grade when  we  both  attended Jesuit  High  School.  He  was  a  5  yr  man--- I  was  a  4  yr man. We  really  did  not  associate  with  each  other but  I  knew  who  he  was  and  I  knew  he  was  the  Best of  the Best.  He  was  the  top  student  in school and  spoke  at  the  graduation.  Years  later, I  heard  he went  to  New   York to  be  in  a  religious group .    Remembering out  time at  Mater  Dolorosa, I  knew he  wanted  to  be  a priest as  we  both were  altar  boys  for  a  while.   So  I  knew  he  would  stay close with his  faith .  38  years  later, I  was  required to  go  to  a  computer class  at  New  Horizons  and  as  I  was  on  break , I  saw  a  plaque that  said  Mark Turegano.   Well  I  was floored thinking  there  were two Mark Tureganos! So  I  asked  the  teacher , about  this  Mark  Turegano. She  told  me he  teaches  here  and  he  is  in  the  break  room   right  now.  When  I  went  into  the  break  room, I  saw  my  old  friend after 38  years of  not  seeing  him. We  hugged and  talked  and  told  him  about I  play  music and  I  had  a  accounting  career. His  dad  was  still  alive  and  I  told  him  I  would  be  performing in a  couple  of  weeks and  would  take  his  father  to  the  gig. Well,  I  was  honored and  thrilled  to  see  both  of  them   to  come  visit  me .   We rekindled a  forever  friendship,  unconditional friendship.  He  made  me  a  better  kid and a better  man  just  to have  known  him.    I knew  his  mother  and  father  and as  well  as  Maggie, and  they  were  the  role  models  of  a  family that  all  should  be used  as  a guide for  any  other  family.  May  his  family have comfort to know you  have  a  Christ-like person  in  heaven and  he  is  watching  over  you.  Heaven  is  a better place to  be, now  that  Mark is  there.

Thank you Mark for your positive attitude and example, in the midst of many challenges you and your family encountered in recent years.  God bless and be with you and your family, always. 

I am so sorry to hear of Mark's passing! But, what an awesome feeling to know he is in the almighty hands of the Lord. Mark was such a compassionate loving husband, father, and grandfather. He has inspired me to be a better person and live in the image of my Heavenly Father full of peace, love, and forgiveness.

I was very fortunate to have spent some time with Mark this past December, reliving some of the experiences we have had together.  Even though Mark said that he was living on borrowed time, he was in great spirits.  Like anyone who knew Mark, I really loved him and will greatly miss him.

I met Mark in the 1970s and had the good fortune to work with him for three or four years. He had a shining spirit that was enhanced by his intelligence, warm heart, sense of humor and love for God. He was fair and kind and immensely patient and had a fatherly maturity about him even when he was in his twenties. I know he will be sorely missed by those close to him, but I can only think that heaven is giving him a loving homecoming. I pray for blessings on his family and I only wish I had been more in touch over the years. The earth was blessed with his presence here. 

I am blessed to have known him and worked with him for many years. Family was everything to him and I wish to express my deepest condolences to them now. I am so sorry for your loss!

I've known the Tureganos for 17 years. Mr. Mark was one of the nicest, most gentle souls I've ever met. He raised 4 amazing young women. Mrs. Micheko, Mamina, Bernadette, Annette, and Mie...I am so, so sorry for your loss.
