And she grew in wisdom and stature and in favor with god and man…
Mary Grant Coyle, beloved wife of Robert D. Coyle, died peacefully at home in the evening of June 2. She is survived by her husband; her children Cory Jameson (Bret, Larkin and Tyler), Tyler Erickson (Kent, Robert and Judd), Kent Marcoux (Ellen, Eli and Cali), George Coyle (Darcie, Sarah, C.C. and Holly), and Lynn LeBreton (Alison, Kathleen and Nathalie). She is predeceased by her son Marc Marcoux (Mila, Michael and Natasha) and her first husband Harvey L. Marcoux, Jr.
Growing up in New Orleans, Mary graduated from McGehee School and Southern Methodist University, where she was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta sorority. She was a flight attendant with TWA and lived in New York, before returning to New Orleans. A long-time member of the Chapel of the Holy Spirit, Mary was joyfully and steadfastly involved in the Chapel’s faith community – a spiritual home where she also raised her children. She was the Executive Secretary of the Louisiana Psychiatric Association, Corporate Fashion Director and Special Events Coordinator at Maison Blanche, and Executive Assistant at D.H. Holmes. Mary also served on the Boards of Children’s Bureau, the Mental Health Association of New Orleans, and the New Orleans Fashion Mannequins organization. Known in her later years as a talented and hardworking painter and artist, Mary especially loved introducing young people – her children and grandchildren, and others – to the beautiful world of art and music, and to the art of truly listening and seeing.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, June 6 at 1:00 PM at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Boulevard (in Metairie Cemetery). Visitation will begin at 11:00 AM.
