
Mary Nell Pullen D’Amico, age 84, died peacefully on July 1, 2014 at her apartment at the Dunwoody Pines in Dunwoody, Georgia under the care of TriMark Health Service and New Century Hospice. She was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Paul A. D’Amico, her father, the late Edward Bryant Pullen and her mother Tempie McQuary Pullen, two sisters, Phama Pullen Ross and Vivian Pullen Barry, and one brother Edward B. Pullen. Mrs. D’Amico was born in Dodson, Louisiana. She is survived by her sister, Dewana Sullivan and brother, Ben Lewis Pullen. Nell graduated as valedictorian of her high school class in 1947 and moved to New Orleans to pursue a career in nursing. She received her nursing degree from the Mather School of Nursing at the Southern Baptist Hospital and became a registered nurse in 1950. She was forever a student. Mrs. D’Amico received her Bachelor of Science degree from William Carey College in 1975. In 1980 she was awarded a Master of Science degree from Louisiana State University and in 1993 she received a Master of Education degree from the University of New Orleans. She was recognized as a nurses’ nurse, training hundreds of nurses during her tenure at Baptist Hospital in New Orleans. Nell became proficient in oil painting and family and friends have enjoyed her artistic ability. She always had a winning smile and became the matriarch at family celebrations in the home of her nephew, Danny Ross since her move to Dunwoody after Hurricane Katrina forced her to leave her home in New Orleans in September 2005.
Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the funeral services at LAKE LAWN FUNERAL HOME, 5100 Pontchartrain Boulevard (in Metairie Cemetery) on Monday, July 7, 2014 at 3:00PM. Visitation will begin at 2:00PM until funeral time. Interment will follow in Lake Lawn Park Mausoleum. The family request that donations be sent to the American Alzheimer’s Association, 225 N.
