Born in New Orleans on December 15, 1926 to the late Herman E. Hautau and Pauline C. Hautau. She is preceded in death by her husband, Harold J. Newman; her brothers, Herman E. Hautau, Jr. and Howard Hautau; and her uncle, Laurent Cames.
Nita is survived by her two daughters, Reneé N. Lemoine (Douglas) and Nita N. Meyer (Don); her son, Harold J. “Buddy” Newman, II (Brenda); grandchildren, Harold J. “Chip” Newman, III (Cathy), Brenda Fay Newman, Douglas P. Lemoine, II, Sandra “Sandi” L. Dame (Mark), Randall “Randy” L. Meyer, and Kristen “Kristy” M. Miller (Alan); and her step-granddaughter, Holly Lemoine Terrell (David). She is also survived by her great-grandchildren, Scarlett, Jerzee, Juliette and Everett Lemoine; and Carter, Cohen and Josephine “Josi” Silbernagel; step great-grandchildren, Sara, Emma, Cathy and Ella Terrell; and her step great-great-grandchildren, Adam and Mia Karaja.
Nita was a Life Member of Ladies Aux 5735 and Past President of Slidell Senior Citizens Club. Most importantly, she was a social butterfly who was well loved and affectionately known for her good nature, generous heart, her love and hospitality and will forever be deeply missed by all.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Mass held at St. Luke the Evangelist Church, 910 Cross Gates Blvd, Slidell, Louisiana 70461 on Thursday, February 1, 2018 at 12:30 p.m. Visitation will begin at church at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow the Mass at Metairie Cemetery in New Orleans, Louisiana.
