

Omer “Bubby” Kuebel, Jr., passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 29th surrounded by all of his loving family. Bubby was born to Jocelyn Claverie Kuebel and Omer F. Kuebel on November 7, 1938, a lifelong resident of Orleans Parish. He attended St. Matthias School where he made many lifelong friends, was an altar boy, and was a member of the C.Y.O., NORD baseball team, and City Champs basketball team.
Omer was a member of the inaugural 8th grade class at Jesuit High School in 1951. He became known as the “Unofficial President of the Class of ‘56.” At Jesuit, he received honor cards for studies, and he rose to the rank of Lt. Colonel in the R.O.T.C. program.
Bubby attended Tulane University where he received a Business Administration degree and a Law degree. In Business School he was President of the Young Republicans Club and Delta Sigma Pi Business School Fraternity.
While at Tulane, he was a member of Alpha Tau Omega fraternity, where he served as Rush Chairman, Treasurer, and Vice President. At Tulane, he was a member of the Navy R.O.T.C. until he received a medical discharge which disqualified him from all military service. At Tulane Law School he was a member of the moot-court board, an academic honor.
Omer practiced Civil Law, specializing in Real Estate from 1963-2005, at the law firm of Montgomery, Barnett, Brown, Read, Hammond and Mintz from 1965-2005. He represented many developers and contractors who developed the “Joe Brown Tract” area generally bounded by the Industrial Canal and Paris Road in the Eastern area of New Orleans. He was a member of the Louisiana State Bar Association and the New Orleans Notaries Association.
During his career, he was a delegate of the White House Conference on Families in 1980 and served on the Boards of Directors of the New Orleans Right to Life, the Bridge House Corporation, the New Orleans Mission, and the Bienville Club where he was a long-time member.
He taught “Basic Principles of Real Estate” at Loyola University for several years and also taught Bible courses at different locations over a twenty-five-year period.
He enjoyed being a member of Metairie Country Club when he was able to play golf and enjoyed being a devoted LSU and Saints fan.
Bubby is survived by his beloved wife of 59 years, Joal Betz Kuebel, and their 9 children: Omer “Rick” F. Kuebel III (Lisa), Katherine McBride (David), Charlotte Kramer (Stephen), Carey Kernion (Richie), Kristen Beevers (Christopher), Caroline Fee (Dart III), Charles Kuebel, Marie Morris (Craig), and Joanna Kuebel. He leaves a legacy into the next generation through his treasured grandchildren: Andrew and John “Jake” Kuebel; Kelly, Brandon, and Pierce McBride; Caroline, Mary Clare, Sarah Kate, and Maggie Kramer; Richard “Trey” Kernion III; Darlington “Dart” IV and Adeline Fee; and William and John Thomas Morris. He is survived by his sister, Elissa K. Dozier (Ross), brother-in-law, Allen “Woody” Betz, sister-in-law, Barbara “Bebe” Babst (Walter) and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Bubby is preceded in death by his loving parents and grandparents, Albert and Berthé Claverie and Joseph and Anne Kuebel, his sisters Jocelyn K. Hallaron and Karyl K. Babst, and granddaughter Genevieve Morris.

A celebration of life will be held on Friday, November 11th at Lake Lawn Funeral Home with visitation from 10:00 AM until 12:00 PM and a Memorial Service following at Noon.
