On Sunday, February 12th, Orville F. Garner, loving husband, father and grandfather, passed away at the age of eighty-four. A New Orleans native, he spent part of his life living in Ocean Springs and Tampa before returning to his hometown. He was a graduate of Warren Easton High School in 1956. After serving in the army he graduated from Tulane University. He then went on to work as a CPA for over 50 years.
Orville was an avid lover of sports and had a passion for many hobbies. He was a former professional bowler, who at one point held the all-time city bowling series record, and was recognized as the youngest top bowling star in the city. Additionally, he was involved in Tulane’s football and baseball programs as a recruiter. He was also a long time golfer as well as a regular in his CPA softball league. He had a lifelong love of music, having played trumpet in high school. He was an accomplished photographer, and also enjoyed his koi ponds and horse racing.
Orville was known best for his selfless compassion and love for his family. With a touch of stubbornness he would do anything for those he cared about but would never spend a dime on himself. He is survived by his wife of nearly sixty years Evelyn, their two sons Darin (Sue) Garner and Greg Garner and the daughter he never had Jane (Dempsey) Wilson. He also cherished his three grandchildren Cole Garner, Christian Garner and Tiffany Garner. The family of Orville Garner would like to thank everyone for the love and support during this time, with a special thanks to Michele Beck.
A Celebration of Orville’s Life will be held at a later date.
