Patricia “Patsy” Tynes Bonner, 76 of New Orleans, LA, passed away on Monday, August 8, 2016 and entered into the eternal life with our Heavenly Father, her children by her side. In her final months, she unknowingly battled a highly aggressive form of cancer.
Patsy was known for her gentle warmth and kindness. Her joyful spirit was magnetic, and she cared deeply for others. She loved spending time with family and friends, and adored her grandchildren more than anything in the world. The family wishes to give special thanks to Patsy’s many friends who loved her and brought her so much joy.
Patsy grew up an only child and attended school at the Academy of the Sacred Heart. After a year at Barat College of the Sacred Heart in Lake Forest, IL, she transferred to Southern Mississippi in Hattiesburg, MS where she met the love of her life, Jim Bonner.
Patsy had a natural business sense and in the mid-1970’s she opened her first gift shop called Things, Inc., located the French Quarter. She enjoyed success as the shop transitioned into women’s clothing and moved to Uptown Square through the early 1990’s. She was quite adept at handling the business side of negotiations, but she was most fulfilled by the relationships she developed with her customers.
Patsy was an active member of a great number of organizations including The Orlean Club, The Pass Christian Yacht Club, The Boys and Girls Club of Pass Christian. She was a devout Catholic, steadfast in her faith, always seeking the word of God in her daily walk.
She was the only daughter of the late Byron L. Tynes, Jr. and Evelyn B. Tynes. She is survived by her devoted husband of over 50 years, James Errol Bonner; her daughter Elizabeth Bonner Casey (Tommy); son James Errol Bonner, Jr. (Molly); and grandchildren Caroline W. Casey, Isabelle B. Bonner, and Tynes W. Bonner.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Mass at LAKE LAWN METAIRIE FUNERAL HOME, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd. (in Metairie Cemetery) on Saturday, September 10, 2016 at 12:00 Noon. Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM. Burial will be private. A gift of flowers or a donation to either the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (www.jdrf.com) or the Academy of the Sacred Heart in New Orleans (www.ashrosary.org) in honor of Patsy would be greatly appreciated by her family.
