Patricia Matranga O’Neill passed away peacefully at her daughter’s home surrounded by the love of her daughters Lacey Michele O’Neill and Heather Marie O’Neill on January 20, 2023 at the age of 69. She was born on July 27, 1953 in New Orleans.
She worked as a saleswoman and as a caregiver for elders with Alzheimer’s and Dementia. She loved what she did. She was a member of the Williams Boulevard Baptist Church bible study group and loved by her community.
She enjoyed everything as beautiful as her. She enjoyed planting in her garden, baking, going to church, and reminiscing about the times she rode horses with her best friend. She loved hanging out with her dog, Rosie, and enjoying time with her daughters and granddaughters. Her daughters were her whole world, and there was never a day that went by without her showing just that. From the time of her diagnosis to the time she passed, her daughters were there to make sure she was comfortable and given the best care, sleepless nights at the hospital and then at home on hospice, there was not a day or night that went by that one of them wasn’t there to make sure she didn’t feel alone. She surely was something special. She loved with her whole heart and was the most selfless and caring person. She was the definition of pure and unconditional love. All those fortunate enough to have known her and have been loved by her were blessed.
She is preceded in death by: her husband of 21 years, Gerard Harry O’Neill; and her parents, Doris Hoerner Matranga and Anthony Joseph Matranga, Sr.
She is survived by: her daughters, Lacey Michele O’Neill and Heather Marie O’Neill; her son-in-law, Rene Antonio Portillo; her sister, Darlene Matranga Olano; and her brother, Anthony Joseph Matranga, Jr.; and her grandchildren, Gianna Grace Portillo and Victoria Renee Portillo.
The family would like to give special thanks to friends and family who have been the greatest support system and loved ones to our mother. The amount of love we have received truly emphasizes how great of a person our Mom was. We cannot thank you enough for the texts, calls, visits, and endless prayers during this devastating and emotional time. She has touched all of our hearts while on earth and will continue as her soul rests.
