

René Laurent Randon, Sr., 88, died peacefully on Sunday, December 21, surrounded by his loving family, after a courageous 28 year battle with Parkinson’s disease. He was born April 29, 1926 to Fulcran Randon, Sr. and Marie Mangin Randon. René graduated from St. Aloysius and Loyola University of New Orleans with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree and a law degree. During the Korean War, he was a first lieutenant in the United States Air Force Judge Advocate General’s Department stationed in Warner Robins, Georgia. On February 13, 1954, he married the love of his life, Shirley Lecler. René was an attorney and lobbyist for Louisiana Land and Exploration Corporation (LL&E). He was a past president of the New Orleans chapter of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, and a former member of Mid-Continent Oil and Gas and The Olympians. He was a devout Catholic and a lector at St. Francis Xavier Church for many years. He was preceded in death by two daughters, Ellen and Suzanne Randon, his parents, three brothers, Fulcran Randon, Jr., Paul Randon, Marcel Randon, and one sister, Marie Randon Jaffe. He is survived by his wife of more than 60 years and their children, René Randon, Jr., Emile Randon, Jeanne Randon Campbell (Volney) of Austin, Texas, Cathleen Randon Stuart (Bruce), and Ann Randon (Robert Deano), grandchildren, Emily Campbell of Austin, Texas, Will Campbell of Glendale, California, Allison Stuart and Rob Stuart, a brother, Maurice Randon, and a sister, Therese Randon Merritt. The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to René’s caregiver for more than four years, China Butler, whose love, compassion and excellent care for him helped make his last years happy ones. The family also wants to thank Dr. Jay Rao, whose friendship and love for René helped him through his disease and Notre Dame Hospice for making his last days comfortable. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Mass at St. Francis Xavier Church, 444 Metairie Rd on Monday, December 29, 2014 at 11:00 am. Interment will follow at All Saints Mausoleum in Metairie Cemetery. Visitation in Church on Monday from 10:00 am until service time.
