Richard "Dick" Moore Meyers

Richard “Dick” Moore Meyers, 78, of Metairie, Louisiana, passed away on January 24, 2026 after being diagnosed with cancer just one month earlier. During his brief illness, he told his physician, “Doc, I’m not interested in statistics. I have my faith and my family.”

Dick graduated from New Orleans Academy in 1966 and from Centenary College of Louisiana in Shreveport. He began his career working in his father’s coffee business and later built a long and meaningful career as a life insurance agent at Northwestern Mutual Life. He was proud to have earned a CLU. At work, Dick’s focus was always on doing the right thing and truly helping people- an approach that reflected the way he lived in every part of his life.

In retirement, Dick devoted himself to his faith and his community. He was an active member of St. Martin’s Episcopal Church in Metairie and the Church of the Good Shepherd in Cashiers, North Carolina. He served as a Eucharistic Minister and found deep joy in being of service. He was a member of the Boston Club, the Pickwick Club, New Orleans Country Club, The Chattooga Club, Cowbellian de Rakin Society, and the School of Design.

When he wasn’t at church, volunteering, or spending time with family, Dick could often be found on the golf course. An avid golfer for decades, he won numerous tournaments. Many will also remember him for his fun-loving, welcoming personality and his well-timed practical jokes.

In 1974, Dick met his wife of 51 years, Lynn McIlhenny Meyers, after being set up on a blind date by her sister. Dick and Lynn were married and later welcomed three daughters: Marilee, Katy, and Leslie.

Dick was predeceased by his brother, James J. Meyers and his parents, Jim and Lizette Meyers. He is survived by his wife, Lynn McIlhenny Meyers; his daughters, Marilee Meyers; Katy Mizelle, her husband Sam, and their children Tyler and Emma; and Leslie Meyers, her wife Emily, and their daughters Winslow and Serette; as well as Lynn and Dick's dog, Gracie.

A service will be held at St. Martin’s Episcopal Church in Metairie on Saturday, January 31, 2026 at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to St. Martin's Episcopal Church or the charity of your choice.
