Richard "Dick" E. Treuting

Richard Earl Treuting, age 86, was called by our heavenly Father on January 1, 2019 at his home in Metairie, LA. Beloved father of Margaret Treuting Edwards, Teresa Ann Treuting, Mary Katherine Treuting Hymel (Louie), Janet Treuting Brown (Robert) and William Turner Treuting (Cathy), grandfather of Richard Edwards, Katherine Edwards Witt (Jordan), Turner Edwards, Louis Hymel, III, JoAnn Hymel, William Hymel, Claire Brown, Robert Brown, Jr., Catherine "Puddy" Brown, Jacob Treuting, Mary Catherine Treuting and Carolyn Ann Treuting. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, JoAnn Turner Treuting; his son, Richard Earl Treuting, Jr.; his parents, Henrietta Thilborger and Frances Joseph Treuting; two brothers, Francis Treuting and William Treuting; and a son-in-law, Timothy Edwards. Dick never met a stranger and his sense of humor was appreciated by all who knew him. Dick graduated from St. Aloysius High School and was a member of the 1949 and 1951 State Championship basketball teams. He received a degree in business from Loyola University and attended Tulane University for graduate school. He was an active member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, and a faithful attendee of Perpetual Adoration for 26 years.

After college, he enlisted in the US Army and when his service was complete, he joined the Whitney National Bank and spent his entire career there, retiring as a Vice President of Business Development. He was a loyal Whitney employee and its greatest cheerleader, never missing retiree luncheons. Dick loved the city of New Orleans and spent many years as a volunteer for a variety of organizations. For 51 years, he was a member of the Fore Kids Foundation and served as the Zurich Classic Golf Tournament Chairman in 1997. He was also a fifty-year volunteer with St. Michael’s Special School and cherished his relationship with Sr. Lillian McCormack and her Blue Roses. In addition, he was a volunteer with St. Louis Cathedral, the Special Education program at Grace King High School, Boys Hope and Girls Hope, Brother Martin High School, Little Sisters of the Poor, Holy Cross High School, Ursuline Convent Museum, Our Lady of Holy Cross Colllege, and the New Orleans Medical Mission. For 22 years after his retirement from the Whitney Bank, he worked in development for the Volunteers of America, and in 2011 was given the outstanding volunteer fundraiser award for the Association of Professional Fundraisers New Orleans Chapter. He continued to raise funds for VOA even during his illness and enjoyed the relationships he developed with the staff who were always so kind and courteous.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Mass at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, 444 Metairie Rd. on Saturday, January 5 at 11 a.m. Interment will be private. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until service time. In lieu of flowers, contributions to Volunteers of America, 4152 Canal St., New Orleans, LA 70119 and St. Michael’s Special School, 1522 Chippewa St., New Orleans, LA 70130 would be appreciated.
