

Robert Hughes (“Bobby”) Grehan, born December 16, 1927, died August 27, 2025, in New Orleans, Louisiana. He is predeceased by his parents, Harold S. Grehan and Dorothy C. Grehan, and his fraternal twin brother, Harold S. Grehan, Jr., and his sister-in-law, Julia P. (“Happy”) Grehan. He is survived by his close companion of over thirty years, Nanetta B. (“Nan”) Smith. He is also survived by his two nephews Harold Hughes (“Hughes”) Grehan, and his wife Susan, of Phoenix, Arizona, and Brooke Yates Grehan, and his wife Jennifer, of Mobile, Alabama. Other survivors include his grandnieces Julia Murphy Grehan of Washington, D.C., Meredith Hughes Grehan of San Diego, California, and Sarah Elizabeth (“Ellie”) Grehan of New York, New York, and his grandnephew Brooke Yates (“Yates”) Grehan, Jr. of Mobile, Alabama.
Bobby was a retired executive in the construction industry and a native New Orleanian. He graduated from Alcée Fortier High School in December 1944 and served in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. In 1948, he graduated from Tulane University with a B.S. in Civil Engineering. At Tulane, he was a member of the Kappa Alpha Order fraternity. Bobby was a Captain in the U.S. Army Reserve, serving in the 377th Transportation Terminal Command Reserve Unit as Aide-de-Camp to Gen. deLesseps S. Morrisson. He was a past President of the N.O. Chapter of the American Public Works Association, a Roadway Engineer for the New Orleans Public Service Company, Manager of a Jackson, Mississippi highway construction company, and retired as a Vice President and former partner in the Carl E. Woodward Construction Co. One of the most rewarding experiences of Bobby’s professional career was leading the construction of two Anheuser Busch distribution centers in the New Orleans area. He was a life member of the Stratford Club and a former member of The Boston Club, the Louisiana Club, the New Orleans Country Club, as well as numerous Carnival organizations.
The family would like to thank all the people that cared for Bobby in his last few years, especially the staff of and caregivers provided by Dependable Nursing & Family Care, Inc. for the services and care they provided Bobby over the last few months of his life.
A private burial service will be held for family and close friends.
