

Robert William Marks passed away suddenly and unexpectedly October 26, 2018, at the age of 72. Bob was born in New Orleans on March 27, 1946. He was the youngest son of Lorraine and Herbert W. Marks, Sr. He is survived by his father; his wife of 48 years, Connie Keeling Marks; daughter, Mary Elizabeth Beam, (wife of Darren); granddaughter Sophia Leigh; brother, Dr. Herbert W. Marks, Jr. (wife, Anna); sister, Charlene Marks Avocato (husband, Noel), and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Bob was educated at Holy Cross High School and Tulane University where he served as president of his fraternity, Sigma Pi. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army including a tour of duty in Vietnam. He retired from the military with the rank of Captain. He worked for many years as co-owner of Reliance Commercial Services. Bob enjoyed Mardi Gras and served for many years as an officer in the Knights of Sparta. Bob was devoted to his church, teaching bible classes and serving on the altar at St. Martin’s Episcopal Church as a Lay Eucharistic Minister. From his youth, Bob was a splendid athlete in football, baseball (catcher and switch hitter), tennis and especially golf. In typical Bob fashion, he became a single digit handicap golfer with both a booming drive and delicate short game. He was a member of Colonial Country Club and Ormond Country Club, now Cypress Lakes. Bob was extremely active in the Masonic fraternity. He was Past Master of the Jacque de Molay Lodge and Louisiana Lodge #102. He was a 32nd degree Mason, Knights Templar, Red Cross of Constantine, National Sojourner, Shriner and 17th Masonic District. He held a leadership role in several of these. Bob was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather. He was loved by his family, liked and respected by his friends and a natural leader. Services will be held at St. Martin’s Episcopal Church on Metairie Rd., November 1, 2018. There will be a Masonic Funeral Service as well as a communion service. Visitation will commence at 1:00 PM, with funeral services to follow at 3:00. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Martin’s Episcopal Church or the Shriners Hospital for Children at www.shrinershospitalsforchildren.org/galveston in Bob’s name.
