Sandy was born in Santa Monica to her parents Riva and Mel Weinstein and along with her sister, Janice, grew up in the Valley until their mother’s very untimely passing when they were barely teenagers. She attended high school in Palm Springs. After college, Sandy joined the AmeriCorps VISTA, which is a domestic version of the Peace Corps, where she settled down in Alabama, and ultimately moving to New Orleans, having truly become a “Southern Belle.” Sandy was a compassionate progressive who fervently stood up as an advocate for all who were downtrodden, and had a deep affection for Southern culture and the Jewish communities in the deep south, especially in New Orleans.
All observances will be held in private in New Orleans.
