Susan was born to Jack and Dolores Darner in Houston, Texas on June 6, 1954. After her family relocated to the New Orleans area, she graduated from Grace King High School. On October 25, 1974, she said “I do” to Bruce LaBorde, which led to a lifelong commitment of 51 years. Together they started a family while Susan worked primarily as an administrative assistant and bookkeeper. She loved her time working in the St. Lawrence the Martyr School office where faculty and students lovingly knew her as “Ms. Sue”. She retired from People’s Health in 2019 to fulfill her role as “Grammy”.
Susan kept busy with her many interests including sewing, shopping, craft fairs, and fitness classes at East Jefferson Wellness Center. On gamedays, neighbors could hear her cheering on her beloved Saints. She found sanctuary with family and took pride in preparing her annual Thanksgiving spread.
Susan faced health obstacles in recent years with remarkable strength and resilience. She overcame each illness and was a lung cancer survivor. Bruce fought each illness beside her. He cared for Susan with constant love, strength, and dedication; always by her side, providing comfort and support. Susan is survived by Bruce, her son, Brad LaBorde (Laura); daughter, Ashley LaBorde Castillo (Denis); grandchildren, Charles LaBorde, Russell LaBorde, Denis Castillo III, and Cameron Castillo; brother, John Darner (Kathy); and nieces, April, Alyssa, and Juliana Darner.
