Thomas Archer Boos, MD, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his family, on January 5, 2026, at the age of 73. Tom was a devoted husband, father, brother, and friend, and a respected surgeon whose life was marked by service, integrity, and a deep commitment to his family and community.
Born and raised in New Orleans, Tom attended Jesuit High School and earned his undergraduate degree from the University of New Orleans. He went on to receive his medical degree from the LSU School of Medicine and completed his surgical residency at LSU/Charity Hospital.
A Board-Certified General Surgeon and Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, Tom served for many years in surgical leadership, including as Chief of Surgery, and cared for countless patients with steady hands and a sincere heart. Outside of medicine, he was a longtime parishioner of St. Louis King of France Church and a member of Metairie Country Club.
Tom is survived by his beloved wife of 43 years, Dr. Nancy Wagner, and their daughter, Heather Boos Crandall (Evan). His devotion to Nancy was unwavering, marked by loyalty and quiet strength. Their marriage was a true partnership grounded in love and respect.
He is also survived by his siblings: Dr. Michael Boos, Jr. (Pamela), Richard Boos (Pam), Patricia Green (Stanley), Stephen Boos, Rebecca Donnelly (William), Lisa Montaldo (Edmond), and Eric Boos (Charleen); along with many nieces, nephews, colleagues, and friends who cherished him. He was preceded in death by his parents, Michael W. P. Boos and Lillie Archer Boos.
Tom lived a rich and vibrant life and pursued his passions wholeheartedly. He was an avid golfer, an instrument-rated private pilot, and an enthusiast of auto racing, cycling, traveling, and most of all, spending time with his family. Above all his accomplishments, he was known for his kindness. For all who knew him, this is undoubtedly true.
The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to all who supported Tom throughout his life and during his illness.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Cancer Crusaders, an organization dedicated to cancer research and support—an effort close to the family’s heart.
