Travis Leighton Martin

He earned a Bachelor’s degree in History and Spanish from California State University in Long Beach, and then a Master’s degree in Urban and Regional Planning. While attending college, he worked diligently six days a week to support himself as a pedi-cabber, all while maintaining his perfect 4.0 GPA. He went on to work for the City of New Orleans as a senior planner, then he served as Director of Planning at Manning APC. Earlier in his career, he served proudly in the Peace Corps in Peru, where he was recognized for his work bringing clean water and sewage treatment systems to local communities. While at the University of New Orleans, he was a member of Crescent City Shapers, an organization dedicated to engaging students in the field of urban planning.

Travis was deeply committed to making the world a better place. His passions included civil rights and social action, economic empowerment, environmental protection, human rights, poverty alleviation, and community service. He was a kind, gentle, and good-hearted man who disliked gossip and was a loyal friend to all who knew him.

He was a well-learned history buff, especially when it came to the city of New Orleans. Travis enjoyed reading, traveling, playing basketball, riding his bike, cooking, journaling, attending sporting events, and sharing good meals with friends and family.

Travis is survived by his loving parents, Scott Martin and Judy Crain; his sisters, Jessie Meadows and Roxanne Martin; his brother, Rory McGlynn; brothers-in-law, Rocco Magni and Dale Meadows; and his nephew, Nolan Meadows.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his memorial service at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd., New Orleans, on Saturday, September 27, 2025, at 10 a.m. Pastor John Canizaro of One Hope Church will officiate. Followed by a celebration of life at Bayou Beer & Wine Garden, 315 N Rendon St New Orleans, LA 70119 beginning at 11:30 am to 1:30pm.
