William Euclid Kern, at the age of 94, entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, June 8, 2021, passing peacefully at his home surrounded by his family in River Ridge, Louisiana. He was a native of New Orleans, Louisiana, born on December 25, 1926, and was a resident of River Ridge, Louisiana since 1957. William was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 67 years, June Simon Kern, a native of New Orleans, Louisiana; parents, Agnes Nuttall, a native of Millville, New Jersey and George Kern, a native of New Orleans, Louisiana; his father-in-law, Albert Joseph Simon, Sr., his mother-in-law, Ethel Clyde Hutchison; and nine siblings, John Everett Kern, Elsie Emma Kern (Mrs. Earl Hageni), Jack Elwood Kern, Ethel Ester Kern (Mrs. Roy Plaisance, Sr.), Yvonne Thelma Kern (Mrs. H. Johannessen), Helen Louise “Nell” Kern, Dorothy Kern (Kommer), Dagmar Yetive Kern (Mrs. James Keith), and Greta Millicent Kern. He is survived by his loving family, his daughter, Alanna Renee Kern and his granddaughter, Amanda Renee Simon Rouquette. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, cousins, and many wonderful, caring friends and neighbors.
Bill graduated from Warren Easton High School. He served in the Merchant Marines, a division of the United States Coast Guard, during the period of armed conflict during World War II and then served in the National Guard of Louisiana during the early 1950s. As a young man, he worked as a salesman and then later in life as a claims investigator for New Orleans Public Service, Inc. (NOPSI) and the Transit Management of Southeast Louisiana (TMSEL). Bill loved spending time with his family, his pets, Elvis and Gina, and enjoyed listening to political and business news, as well as watching collegiate football that included passionately cheering on the LSU Tigers. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the visitation at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd., New Orleans, on Wednesday, June 16, 2021 from 5:00pm to 8:00pm. Thursday, June 17, 2021 at 9:30am visitation will begin and prayers will begin at 10:00am. Reverend Jay Angerer, of All Saints Episcopal Church, will officiate and a burial will follow the service in Jefferson Memorial Gardens Cemetery, 11316 River Road, St. Rose, Louisiana 70087.
