James Hobart Davis, known to his family and friends simply as "Jim," passed away peacefully at the age of 87. Born on November 30, 1937, in Paintsville, Kentucky, Jim was the beloved son of H.E. Davis and Bernice Kelly Davis. He was predeceased by his parents, his cherished sister Doris Duff, and his wife, Clara Davis.
Jim is survived by his loving daughter, Melissa Henry (Scott); his son and best friend, Matthew Davis (Susie); and his treasured grandchildren, Darien Davis, Tyler Henry, and Piro Sierra.
Jim moved to Florida with his family in 1949, where he later graduated from Clearwater High School and St. Petersburg Junior College. He dedicated much of his life to the family hardware business, working first in Clearwater and later managing a larger store in New Port Richey alongside his brother-in-law. It was in that store that Jim began passing on his business knowledge to his children.
His son Matt followed in his footsteps, and together they expanded into a successful wholesale chemical business, which they ran side by side until its sale in 2016. Jim took great pride in watching Matt continue their entrepreneurial legacy with new ventures in clothing and farming.
A man of deep faith, Jim found spiritual community and support at Westminster Presbyterian Church in New Port Richey and Cypress Lake United Methodist Church in Fort Myers. His Wednesday morning breakfasts at Bob Evans with his church friends were a highlight of his week and a reflection of his love for fellowship.
Jim believed that life's greatest joys were often found in simple pleasures—especially a good meal shared with family and friends. He will be remembered for his quiet strength, his devotion to his loved ones, and the lasting impact he made on those around him. He is truly loved and will be missed.
A private/family service will be held to celebrate Jim's life.
