Born in New Haven, Connecticut to his surviving mother Mary Leigh Bianchi and late father Robert Lewis Leigh. First of his kin to cherished siblings Buzz, Missy, Gina, Jack, Chris, and Patrick Leigh and Sarah Ackbarali.
A best friend to many including those who lovingly stood by his side until his last moments, Sebrina, Kelliann, and Chloe.
A true American patriot, he served in the Army from 1976 to 1996 as a combat engineer and Staff Sargent. James specialized in heavy and light construction vehicle operation and maintenance. He qualified as a paratrooper, sharpshooter, drug and alcohol counselor, and expert in hand grenades. He has earned himself Army commendations and achievement medals for his service to the country he loved.
Self-proclaimed jack-of-all-trades yet master of none; he lived a life that could fill three lifetimes. He defined the standards of an entire industry, paving the way, and continued to be a leaning post to his peers. In doing so, he came to know people from all walks of life, from all over the world, becoming home to many.
James lived by a code of honor that he said is Jesus Christ’s only commandment: “So, whatever you wish that others would do to you, do also to them.” The embodiment of the Good Samaritan, exemplifying strength, compassion, selfless acts, grace, and unconditional love to all who found peace with him.
