Obituary of Carol S. Schoonover
Carol S. Schoonover, 87, of Evansville, IN passed away Monday, August 8, 2022 at Heart to Heart Hospice. She was born on June 28, 1935 to the late Fred and Marie Rausch. Carol was a long time member of Vann Avenue Baptist Church. The first and most important love of her life was Jesus Christ. She talked often in her last days of looking forward to just sitting at His feet while He shared stories with her. The love for her husband, Leslie, is one that will not soon be forgotten. They were married for 69 years and is an example for her family to follow. Because of their love for Christ and each other, we know that she will “be waiting for him at the gate” she was so anxious to walk through. She loved her family more than words can express - her daughters: Sherry and Patty, grandchildren: Audrey, Leslie, Lauren, Kyle, Julie, and Clay, great-grandchildren: 25 and counting, as well as extended family. Her favorite hobby was tending to her yard and making it look beautiful. She had a knack for sewing and lived off of Double Colas. Her best friend, Opal, was a friendship she described as a true treasure. A meal was not complete without Carol’s baked goods as she was a master baker, as well as the best turkey and dumplin’ cook in the area, according to her family. The time her family was blessed with, here on earth, was certainly not long enough but eternity awaits for their reunion. She is survived by her husband, Leslie Richard Schoonover; daughters, Sherry L. Whiteside married to Roger Whiteside and Patricia A. Leffel married to Geoffrey Leffel; grandchildren, Audrey Winfrey married Aaron Winfrey, Leslie Cortez married to Elder Cortez, Lauren Bradley married Phil Bradley, Kyle Leffel married to Jordan Leffel (Danks), Julie Poland married to Kory Poland, and Clay Leffel married to Alexandra Leffel (Conger); great grandchildren, Teagan Winfrey, Hayden Winfrey, Isaac Winfrey, Kadence Winfrey, Brandon Winfrey, Payton Winfrey, Griffin Winfrey, Alayna Winfrey, Samuel and Mason Winfrey, Danilo Cortez, Enzo Cortez, Elijah Leffel, Maddock Leffel, Shepherd Leffel, Kai Leffel, Graham Bradley, Reese Bradley, Ellie Poland, Jay Poland, Judson Poland, Paulina Leffel, and Blaire Leffel. Preceded in death by her great grandchild Luca Leffel, as well as her siblings. Alexander Funeral Home will be providing all of the needs of the family. Visitation with take place at Westwood Church in Evansville, IN from 4-6pm followed by a service celebrating Carol’s life and legacy.
