Carolyn D. Barthel

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Carolyn Barthel at the age of 77. She passed away on Monday, May 15, 2023, at her home surrounded by her loved ones. Carolyn was born on March 14, 1946, in Henderson, KY to her late parents Robert E. and Martha Jo (Gibson) Haire.

She was a devout listener of Gospel music, enjoyed camping and fishing, and loved spending time with her husband watching IU basketball and being outdoors. Carolyn was a talented cook and cherished spending time with her family. She was a long-time member of Cypress Baptist Church in Boonville.

Carolyn was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Earl "Dean" Barthel Jr.; and her sister, Marilyn Williams. She is survived by her children, Scott Barthel (Shelba), Brian Barthel (Christine), Greg Barthel (Erica), and Stacy Barthel; sister, Shirley Garrett, and brother, Tim Haire (Trish), as well as her grandchildren, Lorean Severs (David), Brittney Fulcher (Dale), Blake Barthel, Tyler Barthel (Mary), Jacob Barthel (Pauli), Hope Hoeing (Kyle), Haley Gasque, Haven Barthel, and Jake Smith (Miranda), and great-grandchildren, Landon, Avery, Paisley, Cru, and Cleo.

There will be a visitation for family and friends on Friday, May 19, 2023, from 10:00 am to 1:00 p.m. at Alexander Newburgh Chapel, located at 5333 State Road 261. A Funeral Service will follow at 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home, and Carolyn will be laid to rest next to her husband in Greenwood Cemetery, Chandler, IN.
