IN THE CARE OF
Alexander Funeral Home-Newburgh Chapel
Chris Rutherford, born October 17, 1973, departed from our lives on July 3, 2024, after a long courageous battle with Renal Cell Carcinoma leaving behind a hole in our hearts that will last forever.
Chris was not just a husband, but a devoted partner, father, grandfather & friend. He married his soulmate, Jamie Rutherford on January 21, 1994. Together they built a wonderful family full of love & laughter. His boundless love for his family filled with patience, encouragement, guidance and the unwavering belief in their children's potential nurtured them into the remarkable individuals they are today.
He was a proud Navy veteran. After his service, he went on to work for the Army Corps of Engineers, until retiring after 25 years from the Newburgh Lock & Dam.
In the quiet moments ahead, Chris' absence will be deeply felt, but his unwavering support & gentle spirit will continue to resonate through the lives he touched. His legacy of love, integrity, and generosity will live on in the hearts of all who were privileged to know him.
He is survived by his loving wife of 30 years, Jamie Rutherford and their three adoring children, Devon (Cody) Tonkins, Christopher A. Rutherford and Aiden Cozart. Three grandchildren, Mason Tonkins, Chloe Rutherford and Evelyn Tonkins. His parents, Gayla and Deneen Rutherford, two sisters, Crystal (Jim) Benard, Jacki (Jake) Horman, aunt, Sherry Cozart along with many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, July, 7th 2024, from 11:00 am until 2:00 pm, with a funeral service at 2:00 pm, at Alexander Funeral Home in Newburgh, IN. Family & friends will come together to honor his memory and find solace in each other's presence.
Though he is no longer with us in person, Chris will forever remain in our hearts. May his soul rest in eternal peace.
