

Cletus E. Maier, 92, of Newburgh, passed away Sunday, September 14, 2014, at The Charlier Hospice Center at Deaconess VNA Plus. He was born April 2, 1922, in Cannelton, IN, to the late Cully John and Lula Mae (Terry) Maier.
He graduated from Columbia Military Academy in 1940 in Columbia, TN and attended Purdue University. He was drafted during WWII and became a member of the Infantry Artillery Battery C, 27th Battalion and later joined the Army Air Force. He was a Lieutenant in the 15th Air Force 465 Bombardment Group stationed at Torretta Field Italy and flew the B-24 Liberation. After WWII, Cletus graduated from Evansville College. Before retiring, he was a Manager of Manufacturing and Engineering and was Project Manager for a building project for the Reynosa, Mexico GE plant and lived in McAllen, TX. He holds GE Patents from July 15, 1969.
Cletus was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Beverly (Livers) Maier; son-in-law, James E. Privett, Jr.; granddaughter, Jennifer Privett; and sister, Wilma Schroeder.
He is survived by his daughters, Susan Maier Hammock of Newburgh and Sara Songer of Santa Claus; grandchildren, David (Jennifer) and Jeremy Foertsch, Jeff and Jacob Songer; great-grandchildren, Lynsey, Sydney and Zachary Foertsch.
Funeral Services will be 11:00 AM Thursday, September 18, 2014, at Alexander Newburgh Chapel, officiated by Pastor Jerry Wright, with entombment in Park Lawn Cemetery. Friends may visit Wednesday from 3:00 to 8:00 PM at the funeral home.
