

C.M. Bud Downen, 87, of Evansville, IN, passed away on Friday, October 28, 2022, at Bell Oaks Place with family by his side. He was born April 22, 1935 in South Bend, Indiana to the late Clinton Marshall and Lucile (Riggins) Downen.
Bud was a 1953 graduate of Bosse High School, where he played varsity football and won the Kiwanis award his senior year. He married Joylene Grotius on May 10, 1957. Bud served eight years in the Navy Reserve. He was honorably discharged on July 16, 1961.
Bud was the co-owner and operator of The Pit Barbell Club for many years. He enjoyed working out three days a week with his Pit family. He retired at the age of 52 from ATT after 35 years. In his retirement, Bud enjoyed attending school and sporting events with his grandchildren. He traveled on many adventures including motorcycle trips to Alaska and Mexico and hiking through Scotland and New Zealand to name a few.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 38 years, Joylene in 1995.
Bud is survived by his daughters, Beth Renschler (Larry) and Renda Lains (Steve); son, Brent Downen (Jeannine); grandchildren, Hunter Renschler (Sarah), Haley Renschler Adcock (Cody), Chris “C.J.” Lains, Cory Lains (Kenna), Alex Lains, Lauren (Downen) Mosbey (Daniel) and Jennifer (Downen) Berry (Joe); and four great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at Noon on Saturday, November 5, 2022, at Alexander Newburgh Chapel, officiated by his grandson, Hunter Renschler, with burial in Park Lawn Cemetery. Full military rites will be conducted by the American Legion Kapperman Post #44. Friends may visit Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.
The family would like to thank the staff at Bell Oaks Place including Kristin, Tawny, Misty and many others who made the past 3-1/2 years much better in lieu of his disabilities. Also, a special thank you to Southern Care Hospice.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to any Old National Bank location in memory of Bud Downen or could be made directly to Alexander Funeral Home - Newburgh Chapel to benefit the staff at Bell Oaks Place.
