Obituary of Daniel Zimmer
Daniel “Dan” J. Zimmer, 62, passed away at his Newburgh home on Saturday, April 10, 2021. Born on June 9, 1958, Dan was the youngest son of John and Charlotte Zimmer, both of whom preceded him in death. He was a loving and devoted son and helped in their care for many years as they grew older. Dan graduated from Castle High School in 1976. He was an awesome football player, basketball player and track team member for Castle and participated in these sports all four years. He went on to graduate from the UA 136 Pipefitters Apprenticeship Program in 1980 and worked as a pipefitter for many years. He was a proud 44-year member of UA Local Union 136. Dan was a devout Catholic and always had his priorities in order – God (Father, Son, Holy Spirit), Family, Union – that was his Power of Three. Dan was a member of St. Rupert’s Catholic Church and had gotten very involved in the Catholic Cursillo Movement to further develop his relationship with Jesus Christ. He loved his God; he loved his Family; he loved his Union. His grandchildren brought such joy to his life. He loved playing with them. Dan was a very kind, smart, considerate and compassionate man. He would help anyone in need. Dan was a good and gentle man. Dan was a great son, brother, brother-in-law, uncle, father “Pops”, father-in-law and papaw “Grandpa”. He took great pleasure in boating and camping on the river. His love of the Ohio River continued though out his life as he would spend most of his afternoons at the Newburgh dam, reading his newspaper and watching the boats and barges. Dan visited the Casey’s General Store in Newburgh nearly every day, visiting with the employees who quickly grew to know and love him. Dan’s laughter was not only jolly but contagious. He had a true love for motorcycles, German Shepherds and nature. He is survived by his son, Brandon (Erin) Zimmer; adopted son Michael; grandson, Xander; granddaughter, Xaileigh; brothers: Joe Zimmer and Mark (Gayla) Zimmer; sisters: Kim (Bil, deceased) Musgrave and Jill Fletcher; and many nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 AM on Saturday, April 24, 2021, at St. Rupert Catholic Church, 1244 West Red Brush Road, Newburgh, officiated by Father Jack Durchholz, with burial in St. Rupert Catholic Cemetery.
