

He was a U.S. Army Veteran having been stationed in Germany and put in charge of howitzer fire control. Upon returning home, Jerry went back to work at International Steel. He later became the Owner of J&D Steel where he had local projects including Eastland Mall, local schools including Castle South Middle, hotels, malls, and the majority of the industrial warehouses in Lexington, KY. He retired at age 50, but got bored and restarted a corporation in 3 years to continue construction projects throughout the Midwest. Jerry was a member of Newburgh Presbyterian Church and Rolling Hills Country Club. He enjoyed family vacations, golf, tennis, cars and reading history books. He was a political fan and greatly enjoyed the last general election results.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, Oliver and Aleda Hemmerlein; and brother, Oliver, Jr.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Doris (Bartelt) Hemmerlein; daughter, Lisa Lowry (Carson); son, Dr. Jeff Hemmerlein (Allison); grandchildren, Adam and Luke Lowry, and Adele and Rafe Hemmerlein; sisters, Elizabeth Wallace, and Rebecca Weisman (Bill); and nieces and nephews.
Memorial Services will be held 3:00 PM, Sunday, October 1, 2017, at Alexander Newburgh Chapel officiated by Pastor Stephen P. Gutridge. Private burial will take place at a later date. Friends may visit 1:00 PM until service time on Sunday at the funeral home.
