Jack Steven Mitchell passed away on Tuesday, February 3, 2026. He lived a loving and exciting 60 years, and resided in Newburgh, Indiana with his family of 5. He was born on November 28, 1965 in Evansville, Indiana to the late Louis and Peggy (Frei) Mitchell. He was the second youngest of 6 siblings, with 3 brothers and 2 sisters.
Jack was a 1984 graduate of Reitz Memorial High School, where he excelled in sports. He was an essential member of the soccer team, where he went on to win 3 state titles. He also was a state contender for the wrestling team in 1984. Later, Jack was inducted into the Reitz Memorial’s Athletics Hall of Fame in 2019. Jack went on to attend the University of Evansville, where he continued his soccer career. In 2016, he was inducted into the University of Evansville’s Athletics Hall of Fame both as an individual, and as a part of the 1985 Final Four team. Additionally, he won a silver medal in the U.S. Olympic Festival in 1987. Upon graduation, Jack worked in the banking industry for over 20 years where he made many great friends. At his most recent employer, Valor Oil, he worked as a credit manager out of Owensboro, Kentucky.
Being the ultimate competitor, Jack was a member of the Razz-Ma-Tazz and Razz Too softball teams, where he played beside his siblings and friends for over 30 years.
Although they played at Wesselmans, they may have spent as much time down the road at Kipplees! Jack loved spending time with his family and friends; the annual camping trips and beach trips to Panama City Beach were some of his favorites. A very proud father of his 3 children, who all played sports, kept him very busy. There wasn’t anything he enjoyed more than watching them play. He was truly the life of the party, making every gathering and event more fun by simply being there, and every life he touched was better for it.
Jack is survived by his wife, Christen (Miller) Mitchell; children, Kial Mitchell, Jackson Mitchell and Paiton Mitchell; sisters, Beth Wolf (Chris) and Jill Mitchell; brothers, Brian Mitchell (Melissa “Missy”), and Bruce Mitchell (Launa); sister-in-law, Laura Mitchell, and father and mother in-law, David (Susan) and Cindy Miller.
He was preceded in death by his infant sister, Mary Mitchell; and brother, Jay Mitchell.
