

Janice Lee Craig, 85, of Newburgh, passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 16, 2023 with her family by her side. She was born April 15, 1938 in Campbelltown, IN to the late Earl "Pete" and Esther (Phillips) Stewart.
She graduated from Petersburg High School and Oakland City College with a degree in teaching. She was active in both the Petersburg and Winslow Alumni organizations. Upon graduation, Janice taught at Elberfeld High School until she had her children. She grew up attending Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church in Campbelltown, IN before becoming an active member of Bethlehem United Church of Christ in 1959. Janice served in various volunteer roles at the church for many years and was a member of the Eosin group. She was a member of the Boonville Country Club, volunteered at various schools where her children attended, enjoyed golfing, bowling and shopping. Janice was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan and loved playing euchre with her friends. She was devoted to her family; they were the most important thing in her life. Janice and her husband Bill spent most of their lives living in Evansville and Newburgh and additionally lived in Huron, South Dakota for 10 years.
Janice is survived by her husband of 63 years, Bill Craig, Jr.; daughter, Linda Craig (Jo) ; son, David Craig (LaDonne); daughter, Sandy Alter (Craig); grandchildren, Danielle Davis (Rusty), Will Craig (Alexis), Alexandria Winkler (Dylan), Sydney, Nicholas and Ethan Alter; great grandchildren, Jackson and Liam Davis and Tatum Winkler, and siblings, Phillip Stewart (Donna), Jeanie Stewart, Steve Stewart (Mary) and Joe Stewart (Elaine) and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
A Funeral Service will be 1:00 p.m., Saturday, April 22, 2023 at Bethlehem United Church of Christ, 6400 Oak Hill Road, Evansville, IN, officiated by Rev. Emily Slade, with burial in Pleasant Ridge Cemetery in Campbelltown, IN. Family and friends may visit 3:00 to 7:00 p.m., Friday, April 21, 2023 at Alexander Newburgh Chapel, 5333 State Road 261, Newburgh, IN.
