

Joan B. Smith, 81, of Newburgh, passed away from complications of her battle with cancer, surrounded by her family on Saturday, March 12, 2016. She was born March 25, 1934, in Davenport, IA to the late Ralph D. and Vivian (Kibler) Curtis.
Joan’s love of history led her to membership in the DAR, the Newburgh History Club, and volunteering at Historic Newburgh. She was an avid tennis player and a member of Tri-State Racquet Club, Rolling Hills, and the Evansville Country Club. She also was an active member of Zion United Church of Christ in Newburgh, where she participated in the Monday Morning Bible Study. Because of her love of animals, she was a supporter of the Warrick Humane Society. Joan, along with her husband, Marvin, was very active in the USI President’s Foundation. She was also very active in supporting the Women’s Fund of the Warrick County Community Foundation. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and GG.
She is survived by her husband, Marvin "ML" Smith; daughters, Vivian (Norman) Miller and Amy (Dan) Kennedy; son, David Smith; daughters, Laurie (Tom) Miller and Susie (Dan) Hirsch; son, Jason (Brooksie) Smith; grandchildren, Joshua and Curtis Miller, Carrie Rice, Jacob Madden, Sarah Sandefur, Rachael Virgin, Amy Jo and Beth Ann Smith, Steven and Scott Miller, Timothy and Anna Hirsch, and Ethan and Darcie Smith; and great-grandchildren, Miles Murphy, Harper Madden, Simone, Tait and Calvin Miller, and Leena, Vincent and Norah Rice.
Funeral Services will be 10:00 AM Wednesday, March 16, 2016, at Alexander Newburgh Chapel, officiated by Rev. Dan Kennedy, with burial in Rose Hill Cemetery. Friends may visit Tuesday from 4:00 to 8:00 PM and Wednesday from 9:00 AM until service time at the funeral home.
The family would like to thank to Dr. Maqbool Ahmed and his staff for their great care and concern, as well as the staff at Deaconess Gateway ICU and the staff at Chancellor Infusion Center.
