

He was born February 12, 1939, in Lexington, IN, and graduated from Hanover College, where he was a member of Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity. He received his Master’s degree from Indiana University where he met his future wife, Connie.
He was a member of Zion United Church of Christ in Newburgh and Lexington Presbyterian Church in Lexington, IN. Larry retired from South Spencer High School after teaching chemistry and physics for 36 years. He was President of the South Spencer Classroom Teachers’ Association for 20 years and Chairperson for SWIC for 13 years. He enjoyed negotiating for the benefits of both teachers and students. He was a Freemason and Hadi Shriner.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Dale and Mabel; brother, Ronald; and nephew, Kevin Clapp.
He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Connie; daughter, Lanae Harden, J.D. and her husband, Curry and their children, Madeline and Cate Harden of Carmel, IN; son, Dr. Todd Renschler and his wife, Francie, and their children, Elise, Paige, and Claire of Newburgh; sister, Bonnie Clapp and her husband Paul of Lexington, IN; sister-in-law, Kathy Mauck and brother-in-law Roger Mauck of Santa Claus, IN; and numerous nieces and nephews, whom he loved.
Larry had a vivacious and large personality. He enjoyed meeting and talking with people from all walks of life. He was completely devoted to his wife, children, and grandchildren. His favorite pastime involved discussing the activities and accomplishments of his children. Many of his former students often remarked about how easily he could be distracted by turning the discussion to his kids. He spent his summers coaching Todd’s ball teams and traveling with Lanae to tennis tournaments. He served as the best man at his son’s wedding. He was passionate about politics and disagreed with most of his friends regarding the subject. He felt lucky and was proud to have Connie as his wife. His family loved him dearly and will miss him greatly.
Memorial Service will be 11:00 am, Tuesday, January 4, 2011 at Alexander Newburgh Chapel. Friends may visit 4-8 pm, Monday, January 3, 2011 and 10 am to service time on Tuesday at the funeral home.
