I was really shocked and heavily saddened to hear that Mary was gone. Not too long ago, my father and I took my mother, Sharon Hooper, to a Sew 'N Sews meeting. I was in visiting from Chicago and it was my first time going over to hang out and meet the ladies. I had a blast sitting around sharing lunch, cookies and stories with all the girls. As we were close to leaving, Mary grabbed my arm the way a mother would sternly grab a child and pulled me into the kitchen. She said, “I wanted to let you know just how much your mother means to us. Despite her illness, she keeps going and going. She never complains and is always so cheerful. She is such an inspiration to us and that causes us to look more seriously at how we value our own lives and how we view our problems.” It was a struggle for me to hold back the tears I felt coming on at that moment. I regret not having the opportunity to explain to her just how much that very moment meant to me and how much it picked up my own spirits and caused me to reflect on how I was viewing life at that given moment. Maybe someday I can give her a big box of chocolates when I get to heaven.

I will keep your family in my prayers.

I thank God for Mary's life and for her willingness to serve others in so many ways. When she opened her home to others who enjoyed quilting (the “Sew 'N Sews”) it was the beginning of a great ministry. My wife, Sharon, was wonderfully blessed during the last few years of her life to be able to experience the Christian love that flowed from Mary's quilting rooms. I will miss her.

I just saw where Mary has made a turn in this life before me.

How exciting it must be for Mary, and a little sad for us because we will miss her.

Interesting, Mary, this move on your part is better than an Academy Award, the Nobel prize. winning the lottery or any earthly thing.

I know you join me in wishing that EVERYONE would find and accept this gift.

I clearly understand where your GOODNESS comes! What a special, Christian woman you were blessed as your matriarch. May God richly bless your family as you continue her legacy.

I loved Mary!  I worked with her for several years at Loge School.  I never saw her without a smile on her face and I never heard anything but kind words from her mouth.  She was a very special lady and will be missed by so many.  My prayers are with her family.
