Matthew Joseph Rohrer, 53, passed away early Sunday morning on December 30, 2012, in Newburgh, IN. He was born on November 10, 1959. A graduate of Castle High School, and former athlete, Matt loved spending time with his family, playing music, arrowhead hunting, and fishing. He especially loved his 1½ year old grandson, Gavin. He was adored by his long time partner, friend, and wife, Lisa. He enjoyed doing things to help others in need as he was a gifted and skilled laborer.
Matthew was preceded in death by his father, Richard (Dick) Rohrer, Jr.
He is survived by his mother, Dorothy Rohrer, his wife, Lisa, one son and daughter-in-law, Matthew Graham & Kimberly Rohrer, one grandson, Gavin, all of Newburgh. Two brothers and sisters-in-law, Mark & Jeanne, of Evansville, Richard & Leslie, of Canton, GA., and several close nieces and nephews who loved their Uncle Matt dearly.
Matthew was a 33 year member of Local 136 and worked solely for Industrial Contractors as a Pipefitter. He has worked as an independent contractor for the past 10 years with Mark & Jeanne in their business, Concept Sound & Light. He filled an irreplaceable role within the company. His close friends of the Local 102 Stage Hands recently sponsored a dinner / benefit in his honor, where Matt, Mark, and Terry Sartor, as well as others, spontaneously performed for 3 hours for many guests who came to show their love and support for him.
Matt touched the hearts of many and will be deeply missed by all of his family and friends.
We wish to express our deep gratitude to all those who cared and prayed for Matthew and encourage donations for Melanoma Research Foundation, 1411 K Street NW Suite 800, Washington, DC 20005. Thanks especially to Vanderbilt Cancer Center in Nashville, TN.
Services will be at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 2, 2013, at Alexander Newburgh Chapel, officiated by Rev. Dominique Walker, with burial in Rose Hill Cemetery. Friends may visit on Tuesday, January 1, 2013, from 2:00 to 8:00 PM at the funeral home.
