Phyllis Jean Rogers was born on November 13, 1938, in Huron, South Dakota. She was adopted at the age of 5 by Charles & Ina Gilchrist and grew up in a loving family with two older brothers on a farm in Iroquois, South Dakota. She married Cliff Rogers on February 14, 1976, in Webster City, Iowa. She was a longtime member of the United Methodist Churches in Newburgh, IN and Florence, KY, where she was employed as part of the nursery staff. She worked in her early life as a teller at several banks before transitioning to working with her husband Cliff in the office of his trucking business. Phyllis had many hobbies during her lifetime including quilting, sewing, making porcelain dolls, writing poetry, and cheering on the Iowa State Cyclones basketball team. She was also an avid animal lover with a particular fondness for horses and dogs. Her dachshunds Fritz, Oscar, and Moxie were among her favorite pets. Her favorite vacation was a trip to a working dude ranch with her daughter, Julie, where they spent the week riding horses in the mountains. Phyllis was also known for keen sense of style. She loved the color purple, a nice animal print and always had a purse with jewelry to match.
