

Pastor Reuben Carl Evenson, 83, of Newburgh, IN, passed away Wednesday, July 27, 2016, at Cypress Grove Rehabilitation Center. He was born August 24, 1932, in Emmet County, Iowa to the late Trygve and Nora Evenson.
He married Ellen Woodyard in 1952 and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. Before entering Seminary, Reuben owned Estherville Millwork. He attended Seminary in 1964 and pastored several Lutheran churches ever since his graduation. After retirement, he served at Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Rockport.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Pastor Evenson is survived by his wife of 64 years, Ellen Evenson; sons, Douglas Evenson (Lisa), David Evenson (Cathy); daughters, Connie Lantz (Tom), Michelle Miles (Tom); 8 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; sister, Josephine Nelson; and brother, Robert Evenson.
Funeral Services will be held 11:00 AM, Monday, August 1, 2016, at St. Luke Lutheran Church, 4200 Epworth Road, Newburgh, IN, officiated by Pastor Tom Vanselow with burial in Rose Hill Cemetery. Military Honors will be performed at the cemetery by American Legion Kapperman Post 44. Friends may visit 2-6 pm Sunday at Alexander Newburgh Chapel, 5333 State Road 261, Newburgh, IN, and Monday, 10:00 AM until service time at the church.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Luke Lutheran Church.
