Obituary of Scott Wayne Daywalt
Scott Wayne Daywalt, 65 of Newburgh, passed away on Friday, April 19th after a brief illness. Scott was the son of Don and Virginia Daywalt of Newburgh, and was a 1976 graduate of Castle High School. In 1979, Scott married his high school sweetheart, Debbie, and they were just short of celebrating 45 wonderful years of marriage. Scott was a standout member of Castle’s Football team, and maintained many of those friendships throughout his life. He joined the Plumbers and Steamfitters Local 136 in 1977 as a pipefitter. Scott was injured in a motor vehicle accident in 1986 that left him in a wheelchair. But anyone that knew Scott, knew that never slowed him down. Not one to make excuses, his injury never kept him from enjoying life with family and friends. An avid outdoorsman, Scott enjoyed hunting and fishing and was always thankful for the friends that convinced him to return to the activities he loved following his accident. He went on several hunting and fishing trips, from Canada to Mexico, and even owned and operated Outdoor Connection in Boonville. One of Scott’s greatest joys in life, was attending the activities of his kids and grandkids. A staple at the ball fields, very few sporting events were held where he wasn’t in attendance. And as with other areas in his life, seasonal friends became lifelong relationships. Scott was also at home on the beach and loved the sunshine, always looking forward to trips to Florida with family. In 2002, Scott was the gracious recipient of a lifesaving liver transplant. Another battle fought and won, he was given many more happy, healthy years with family. Scott is survived by his wife of nearly 45 years, Debbie Daywalt. A true testament of love and devotion, Debbie stood by Scott’s side through thick and thin, in sickness and in health. They were inseparable. Whether taking cross country trips, weekend tournaments away, or just short drives for ice cream, they loved traveling together. Later in life, they found a renewed source of energy and identity in taking care of their grandkids. Scott again was challenged with health issues following complications from heart surgery. However, his strong will was once again on display, as he made yet another recovery. For almost 30 years, Scott and Debbie have attended Crossroads Christian Church. Despite Scott’s famous frown, and sometimes stoic demeanor, his warm smile and charm would surface at a moment’s notice. He had a wonderful sense of humor and loved to laugh with friends. Scott is preceded in death by his mother, Virginia “Ginny” Daywalt and father in law, James Hayden. Surviving are his father, Don Daywalt of Newburgh, and brother Mark Daywalt (Joanie) of Evansville. Scott is survived by his wife of 44 years, Debra Daywalt. His son Ryan Daywalt (Patty) and daughter, Lesley Smith (Andy) of Newburgh. Scott’s pride and joy were his four grandchildren, Will, Liv, Brody, and Graham. He was their Pap. A role he embraced, and a title he wore proudly. He is also survived by his mother in law Irene Hayden, and brother in law Kent Hayden (Sandra), as well as several nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 24, 2024 at Crossroads Christian Church with burial to follow at Rose Hill Cemetery. Friends may visit from 3:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 23, 2024 at Alexander Newburgh Chapel and Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until service time at the church.
