

Shirley Jean (Boes) Reed passed on to rest in the arms of Jesus Saturday, February 10, 2024 at about 8:30 a.m. She was born August 13, 1943, to Russell Richard and Norma Ruth (Staggs) Boes in Terre Haute, IN.
In 1961, Shirley graduated from Coalmont High School in Coalmont, IN and from Vigo School of Nursing in 1964. On June 7, 1964, Shirley and Bill L. Reed were united in marriage and moved to Nashville, TN where Bill was enrolled in Trevecca Nazarene College. Shirley served faithfully as a pastor’s wife for nearly 45 years. She is a member of the Mackey Church of the Nazarene, their last pastorate. Shirley was blessed with gifts of love and hospitality for people without prejudice. She immensely enjoyed working with all ages in their church ministry. Her most effective involvement was being a prayer warrior. She dearly loved and prayed for her family daily. She also found great satisfaction being employed as a nurse for many years. Shirley was a faithful wife of over 59 years, a loving mother, tremendous cook and avid reader. She found joy collecting bells from many places around the world, most of which were gifts from family and friends.
In addition to her parents, Shirley was preceded in death by her brothers, William L. and Larry R. Boes; sister-in-law, Janet Hayman Reed; brother-in-law, Dale Gummere.
She is survived by her husband, Bill; children, Richard D. Reed (Jane), RaJeanda L. Jones (Mark), John R. Reed (Mimi); grandchildren, Derrick Reed (Sarah), Ethan Jones, Emma Jones, Nicholas Reed, and Cacee Reed; great-grandchildren, Thea, Quinn, and Declan Reed; brother, Thomas E. Boes (Cindy); brother-in-law, Sherman R. Reed (Dot); sister-in-law, Naomi Reed Hofmann (Bill); and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be at Alexander Funeral Home Newburgh Chapel on Thursday, February 15, 2024 from 3:00-7:00 p.m. CST. A Celebration of Shirley’s Life will be Friday, February 16, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. CST followed by burial at Sunset Memorial Park, Evansville, IN. A livestream of the service will be available at www.facebook.com/FuneralStreamUSA. Friends and family are also welcome to visit Friday from 9:00 a.m. until service time.
