Her story....Dorothy was the youngest of five siblings. She was born May 13, 1929 from the union of Mallie and Lenora Latham in Crenshaw, Mississippi. The family later moved to Memphis, Tennessee. She was baptized as a child and accepted Christ as the head of her life. After moving to Chicago her adult years, she took the Sacrament of Eucharist at St. Thaddeus Catholic Church where she remained a member until the day she was called home to our savior.
Dorothy married and was blessed with two children from her marriage to Alvin Williams Sr., however they divorced. Dorothy later found affinity with George Campbell and later remarried, moving to the South Side of Chicago. From that union, five children were raised. Being an avid learner Dorothy graduated from nursing school in the 1970's, going on to pursue her Masters at the University of Illinois. As a nurse, she worked diligently with the handicapped and disabled at Read Mental Health Facility for almost two decades. Dorothy's heart was so big, she often helped friends and cousins by looking after their children when they could not. Dorothy valued intelligence, education and advancement in life. She taught her children to have this same desire and provided the tools for them to excel. Dorothy had a brilliant mind and was attuned to the cutting edge in science, art, and music, which she taught her children to appreciate as well. Dorothy's petite size, sense of humor and no nonsense demeanors, made her a force to be reckoned with. Her presence was always known just as the love in her heart.
Dorothy Veronica Latham Campbell departed this world for her everlasting home with our Lord on August 31, 2015, surrounded by her family. Dorothy's husband, George, sisters Hazel, Ginell, brothers Fern and Mallie, along with her beloved sons Alvin and Sherman preceded her in death. Dorothy leaves to cherish her memory, her children, her grandchildren and great grandchildren along with a host of loving Godchildren, cousins, friends, and in-laws.
Philippians 4:6-8
Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayers and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehensions, shall guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Finally, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good repute, if there is any excellence and if anything worthy of praise, let your mind dwell on these things.
