Dear Spadoni Family,

LCDR Spadoni was my "skipper" aboard the USS Impervious.  If you don't already know it, he was deeply respected and admired by the crew.  As an 18 year old on my first tour of duty in Vietnam, our mission was to block and intercept the smuggling of weapons and explosives to the VietCong by tracking, then boarding and searching  junks and other craft.
I'll never forget "the Captain" standing guard on the bridge and armed with his favorite weapon at the ready, a Browning Automatic Rifle (BAR).  He was the most impactful Officer I ever served with... always ready for action and ensuring the crew was as well.
Over the years, I've kept in touch with a few of the guys.  Sadly, about three-fourths of us are gone.  But until the day I die, "Captain Spadoni" will be in my thoughts and memories.     -Bob Longo, Pinehurst, NC

Dear Denny, Bill, Mike, Jim & John,

I didn't hear of your dad's passing away until I ran into Mike at Darvin.  I was so sorry to hear about it and sorry that I missed the wake.  Your dad was a wonderful man, always so kind to us 83rd Street kids.  I remember him taking us all in his station wagon to Hayes Park to play ball, playing football with us in the street.  When he'd drive us to St. Denis, he'd pump the heater controls and say, "We're about to take off, boys."  He was a lot of fun. We'll never forget how the "rich" Spadonis had the first color TV on the block which was great for watching Frazier Thomas and Family Classics.  Our condolences go to all of you on your loss.  May God bless him for being such a great father and neighbor and for his service fighting the horrible Japanese in the Pacific War.

Mike, so sorry to hear of your father's passing. We lost my dad this year also. He was a year older than your dad & also a WWII veteran.
